With everything so crazy and unpredictable in the world, it makes sense for people to crave the leisure that comes from slowing down and taking the time to stop and smell the roses. Along the coast of southern Spain, the Andalusians have always embraced a relaxed lifestyle. Considering Costa del Sol sees 320 days of bright sunlight every year, it’s no wonder that they want to spend more time luxuriating on the beach!
But the Sun Coast is a significant stretch of land. You’re likely wondering where you should settle down. Let’s take a closer look at one of the most beautiful areas: Nueva Andalucia.
Nueva Andalucia
Just a 10-minute drive from Marbella, Nueva Andalucia is centrally located on the Costa del Sol. Marbella is known for its lovely beaches (including the adorable dog beach, Ventura del Mar) and fantastic cuisine, but Nueva Andalucia has plenty to offer on its own. You’re right on the sandy beaches with plenty of chiringuitos, restaurants, bars, and amenities available in the area.
After 10 PM, you’ll undoubtedly notice the whole region coming awake, and the nightlife in Nueva Andalucia is famous enough to attract people from the nearby towns along the Costa del Sol. Don’t worry about the noise, though. You’re secluded enough that the honking of traffic and the hustle and bustle of big cities is a thing of the past.
During the daytime, there are plenty of fun things for you and your family to do, even when you aren’t surfing or building sand castles along the coast. The Sierra de Ronda mountain range is well within reach and offers some truly incredible hiking trails. There are many golf courses in the area where you can practice your swing.
In the town, you’ll find all sorts of businesses like casinos, shops, designer boutiques, gyms, and spas. Of course, there are tons of restaurants and bars too! We recommend the local franchise Terra Sana if you want to eat out for breakfast. Or, if you’re looking for something different, The Taj Mahal has the best Indian food on the coast. If you prefer to do your own cooking, the Saturday morning market in the Centro Plaza is a must-see for all of the fresh, locally-sourced ingredients.
Out and About
If you can manage to tear yourself away from Nueva Andalucia, you’ll find that it is very close to the other towns along the Costa del Sol. You need only hop in the car for about 20 minutes to see Estepona, Benahavis, or Ronda. You can even walk to San Pedro’s rustic cobblestone streets, and colorful flower baskets set out against whitewashed facades.
Unlike many of the towns along the coast, Nueva Andalucia is relatively new. It was founded in 1964 and originally intended as a tourist destination. Tourists still love the place, but now permanent neighborhoods of luxurious apartments and villas have been built for people who fell in love and decided to stay forever.
