Exploring The Seasons in Costa del Sol

Once you’ve moved to Costa del Sol, you’ll always be able to find something to do. That’s primarily due to the fantastic weather in the Mediterranean region. It’s usually warm and sunny, making outdoor activities a must!

Spring
From March through May, temperatures are quite mild, averaging 16 degrees C. Many years, it’s hot enough for avid beachgoers to start their summer activities in late April. However, other people take advantage of the balmy weather to work on their strokes. With over 70 golf courses dotted along the Costa del Sol, you could try out a different course every week and still not manage to get all of them in during the long Iberian summer.
If you aren’t ready for the sun, you can always check out the Nerja Caves or Cueva de Nerja. The tunnels have spectacular stalagmites and stalactites. Some of the caves even have prehistoric paintings!

Summer
June, July, and August are undoubtedly the hottest months in Costa del Sol, with temperatures averaging 25 degrees C and sometimes hitting highs of 30! When you want relief from the heat, there’s no better way to spend your day than relaxing on the beach. We recommend Playa del Canuelo, near Nerja, if you want to find your serenity in an uncrowded area.

Make sure you stop by one of the numerous chiringuitos for a tasty snack and a cold Cerveza in the afternoon! Many have pits outside where the cooks roast the sardines over wood fires. It’s a local tradition and a yummy one at that.

Autumn
September, October, and November are much more pleasant than the hot summer, although it never really cools off below 11 degrees C, which isn’t until November. You might not want to be in the ocean anymore, but there is still plenty to do during the fall. Nearly every town along Costa del Sol has multiple autumnal festivals to participate in. They celebrate everything from religious holidays to flamenco competitions. The food is great, the costumes are splendid, and the company is even better.
Not a festival-goer? Well, grab your camera because the fall months are the best time to snap photos of the breathtaking coves, cliffs, and endless shorelines. You can even catch a cable car about 20 minutes south of Malaga that takes you on a quick journey to the top of Mount Calahorro. From there, you can see as far as the coast of Africa on a clear day!
Bird enthusiasts also find this is the best time of year to see some rarer species along the southern coast of Spain.

Winter
Even when it’s technically winter, the temperature never drops below about 8 degrees C and can get as high as 17. Since it never gets very cold, nature lovers use the wintertime to walk around the cobblestone streets of the whitewashed villages and explore ancient Moorish and Roman ruins. Many towns have older parts where Moorish towers, mosques, Roman aqueducts, and baths still survive.

No matter where you are, you’re sure to find something fascinating to discover! Exploring The Seasons in Costa del Sol.
