Strolling down cobblestone streets while gazing at whitewashed buildings and bright spots of color from hanging flower pots is just the beginning of life in Costa del Sol. The south of Spain is known for its beautiful beaches, cute towns, and designer shops that frequently attract the rich and famous. You don’t have to be a celebrity to enjoy the sun-drenched leisure that Malaga can offer.
And one of the best places to live along the Costa del Sol is Fuengirola. It’s easily accessible by bus and a commuter rail service that connects Malaga to many of the smaller towns and villages along the coast. No matter where you settle down, you’re never far from anywhere else.
Sohail Castle
Sitting on a hill overlooking the crystal clear ocean, Sohail Castle was originally built by Abderrahman III over 1,000 years ago. It has been renovated numerous times over the years to suit other purposes, so by now, there are architectural elements from the Moors and Spanish involved. Plenty of cultural events and festivals still take place around or in the castle.
History Museum
Opened in 2003, this museum contains parts of the old castle nearby. It’s located in the old house of a veterinarian in Spain Square and features a bunch of fascinating exhibits detailing the traditional fishing and Andalusian crafts of the area.
The Culture House
The Culture House is a great place to go when you want to hear live music or see people perform. It’s a rentable exhibition room where you can find concerts, conferences, and other get-togethers.
Plaza de Toros
There are many bullfighting and equestrian activities that happen here. There are even some national competitions for dressage that take place in this plaza. If you love horses, there are plenty of opportunities to watch them. It’s definitely a must-see!
El Rio
After a long day of walking around and enjoying the sea breeze, you’ll need a nice spot to settle down and tuck into a traditional Spanish meal. El Rio is a family-run restaurant with a tapas bar next door. Locals love their steaks, but everything on the menu is absolutely delicious. No matter whether you just want some small plates or are ready for your evening meal, you can find something at El Rio. Exploring Around Fuengirola in Costa del Sol.
